Councilor Johnny Young is crafting a measure that seeks to set a speed limit for bicycles passing through esplanades and public parks in Iloilo City.
The proposed speed limit ordinance, according to the local lawmaker, will prevent injuries and deaths caused by accidents.
“The City Government of Iloilo seeks to ensure and maintain the safety of pedestrians and pets traversing along all its esplanades and other public open places such as parks and plazas,” Young’s draft ordinance stated.
The councilor proposed to restrict cyclists to a maximum speed limit of 10 kilometers per hour (kph).
Violators will be fined P250. The City Legal Office will take legal actions against those who fail to pay five days from the issuance of the citation ticket.
Young introduced the proposed measure during their regular session last week.IMT
