Two universities in Iloilo were among the best performing academic institutions in the Philippines, according to the latest ranking by a Spain-based research firm.
Based on the Spanish National Research Council’s July 2022 Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, West Visayas State University (WVSU) ranked 17th in the country.
WVSU jumped by five notches from its spot in July 2021.
Webometrics used three indicators to evaluate the university performance: web presence or visibility (50%), transparency or openness (10%), and excellence (40%).
In the Western Visayas region, WVSU ranked first and followed by the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV), which landed on the 19th spot in the national ranking.
The ranking aims to promote the publication of web content among educational institutions and support open access initiatives, electronic access to scientific publications, and to other academic material.
WVSU and UPV have world ranks of 5383 and 5540, respectively, out of more than 31 thousand universities worldwide.IMT
