The Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) in Mandurriao district, Iloilo City may receive an allocation of COVID-19 vaccines developed by China’s Sinovac Biotech within this week.
Dr. Mary Jane Juanico, head of the Infectious Disease Unit of the Department of Health (DOH-6), said WVMC and the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City are the first health facilities in Western Visayas to get the initial vaccines from the Chinese pharmaceutical firm.
According to the health department, 16,000 doses of the vaccines will be sent to Western Visayas. They are intended for frontline health workers in the region.
In an interview with ANC on Wednesday, March 3, vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. said they are targeting to distribute all the 600,000 doses of the China-donated vaccines by Sunday, March 8.
