The Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) in Iloilo City has already tested more than a thousand individuals for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

WVMC conducted 1,410 COVID-19 tests on 1,282 individuals from March 24 to April 11, 2020, data released by the Department of Health (DOH) showed.

The total tests, according to the DOH, included retests and validations.

Of those who underwent tests, 36 or 2.8 percent were found positive for COVID-19 while 1,246 or 97.2 percent were found negative for the disease.

The DOH-6 said WVMC has 3,432 remaining test kits.

The region’s health department had been sending samples to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) in Manila, prior to the accredition of WVMC as testing center for the disease caused by the new coronavirus

WVMC is so far the only COVID-19 testing center in the whole Western Visayas.

As of April 11, there are 40 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region, including 6 recoveries and 7 deaths.

The province of Iloilo recorded the most number of cases with 15, followed by Bacolod City, 7; Aklan, 6; Iloilo City, 5; Capiz, 4; Antique, 2; and Negros Occidental, 1.

Guimaras is the only province in the region that has zero cases of COVID-19.IMT
