Western Visayas has logged almost a thousand new cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in a single day.
The Department of Health (DOH-6) on Saturday, June 12, reported 978 fresh infections, the highest daily case count reported since the pandemic began.
Bacolod City accounted for the most number of the newly recorded cases at 236, all are locally transmitted.
It’s followed by Iloilo province with 173 new cases, Negros Occidental, 162; Iloilo City, 155; Aklan, 138; Capiz, 65; Antique, 25; and Guimaras, 124.
Overall, the region now has a total of 11,246 active cases, of which 2,295 from Iloilo province, 2,523 from Iloilo City, 2,253 from Negros Occidental, 1,890 from Bacolod City, 827 from Capiz, 763 from Aklan, 493 from Antique and 202 from Guimaras.
The June 12’s additional cases also jacked up the region’s total cumulative number of COVID-19 cases 55,082.
The figure includes 42,542 recoveries and 1,277 deaths.IMT
