Western Visayas set a new record for the highest single-day increase in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases.

This, after the Department of Health (DOH-6) reported 532 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, May 21.

The additional infections brought the region’s total case count to 42,511.

Negros Occidental accounted for the most number of new infections at 155, followed by Bacolod City with 151, Iloilo City, 70; Iloilo province, 59; Capiz, 57; Aklan, 27; Guimaras, 4; and Antique, 2.

Of the total cases registered in the region since the start of the pandemic in March last year, 35,758 have recovered, 1,038 have died; and 5,704 are considered active.

The active cases are broken down as follows: Negros Occidental, 1,780; Bacolod City, 1,166; Iloilo City, 919; Iloilo province, 683; Aklan, 429; Capiz, 413; Antique, 243; and Guimaras, 71.

The entire Western Visayas is currently under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ).IMT
