Taekwondo jins from Western Visayas showed their impressive prowess in the 2021 Smart/MVPSF Visayas CPJ Taekwondo Poomsae and Speed Kicking Championships last Saturday, Apr. 11.

Four Iloilo-based clubs dominated the weekend tournament after garnering medals in various game categories.

A. Diasnes Gym finished the competition with nine gold medals. Rojohn dela Cruz led the way after winning two gold medals in the cadet male brown free kicking and cadet male brown poomsae category.

Almar Diasnes won the gold in junior/senior male brown free kicking before settling for a silver in poomsae while Alfie Diasnes took gold in senior male black free kicking and silver in poomsae.

Seth Ryan Templanza also snagged gold, silver, and bronze medal in free kicking while Nash Ivan Eraste captured a gold in grade school poomsae and bronze in free kicking.

Other gold medalists were Anne Maragareth Aguana in junior/senior female brown poomsae, Kristi Marie Siscar in grade school black female poomsae, and Cindy Joy Diasnes in senior female black poomsae.

Adriano Horlador, Jesseray Frantilla, Denzil Palonpon, Oscar Damasco, Franz Angelo Fernandez, Justine Diasnes, and Elisha Aguilar received silver medals for the team. Frantilla, Fernandez, Mary Noelle Alim, Justine Diasnes, Janus Tacsagan, Sheriemei Hojilla, Clarence Gancero, Denzil Palonpon, Cyrus Palonpon, Justine Diasnes, Elizabeth Borres, and Artha Tanagon finished with bronze.

Meanwhile, the Mark Pinggol-mentored athletes also made waves in the tournament. They bagged gold medals, thanks to Alexis Eunice Araneta, Andria Margaret Palabrica and Julianna Martha Uy. Araneta, Shannen Feranco and Niesha Kariz Pequierda got the silver while Maria Beatriz Santos, Geon Ivan Dulaca, and Justin Adrian Apura took home the bronze medals.

“We are thankful sa outcome sang amon event. It’s another blessing sa amon team. We’re also thankful sa mga parents for continuously engaged their kids sa taekwondo. As we all know, almost one year na kita ga face sa crisis, but they choose to be active and productive and we see nga ga enjoy sa ila activity,” said Pinggol.

Cabatuan Taekwondo wrapped up the matches with two medals in the tournament. Keira Galindo’s gold in poomsae and Sunshine Tano’s bronze in cadet female black A free kicking.

Zarraga Taekwondo Dojang, represented by Ma. Roselle Pueyo took gold and silver while teammate Ma. Christianne Sudayan got the gold and bronze. Sean Sencida won two gold medals, while Jaden Paul Aranjuez finished with bronze.IMT
