All airports in Western Visayas will remain closed to commercial operations under the modified general community quarantine (MGCQ).
The region’s local chief executives decided to extend the suspension of commecial flights, both domestic and international.
In a press conference on Friday, May 29, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas said the airports will only cater to flights carrying overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and locally stranded individuals (LSIs).
“Ang flights pati man boat trips (from and to the region) naton indi lang anay, para lang anay sa aton OFWs kag sa LSIs,” Treñas told reporters.
With regard to fast craft and RORO (roll-on, roll-off) trips between Iloilo City and Bacolod City, Treñas said he is still waiting for the final decision of Mayor Evelio Leonardia and Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson.
“Mahulat kita kay gaalang-alang pa to sa pihak. Indi pa okay sa tabok, pero kita di ya sa Iloilo City ready na magbaton sa ila,” he said.
The region is set to shift from GCQ to MGCQ, the lowest form of community quarantine, on Monday, June 1.
“Kon magsiling ka MGCQ that’s almost ‘New Normal’. Pwede na kabukas tanan nga business establishments ta. Ang sinihan kag mga spa pwede na pero 50 percent lang,” Treñas said.IMT
