Young dribblers from Western Institute of Technology (WIT) made a crippling run late in the fourth quarter to unseat Central Philippine University (CPU) in a thrilling do-or-die finals of the men’s basketball of the 2019 Iloilo Private Schools Athletic Association (ILOPRISAA) Meet, 85-74, at the University of San Agustin (USA) covered gym.
The newly-crowned champions completely upset the Golden Lions in Game 3, through Patrick John Gain’s 18-point explosion. The former Centerphil SilverKnights star made an impressive performance in the court as he delivered the killer blows down the stretch. Zaldy Patizar also wowed the crowd with his 12 points.
Both teams exchanged series of buckets in the first half, with undefeated CPU carrying a twice-to-beat advantage. WIT opened the match with three consecutive booming triples to cruise a 35-23 advantage. Golden Lions made a retaliation and cut the deficit to 46-47 at the half.
In the second half, WIT made their presence felt with Gain and Patizar lifting their team via catch-and-shoot to claim the coveted title.
Meanwhile, Miguel Sasuman erupted with 30 points while Wilmer Dalumpines chipped in 10 points for the Golden Lions.
It was a double celebration for WIT as they retained the crown in the tertiary women’s basketball after defeating University of San Agustin, 77-63.
Janica Francisco provided the spark for the back-to-back champions, with 27 points, while RJ de Asis and Dalyn Castracion contributed 16 and nine points, respectively. IMT
