The OCTA Research Group has considered Western Visayas as an epicenter of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases.
“It depends on the definition or perspective of the person on what an epicenter is. From our perspective, Davao City is also one of the epicenters now, along with Western Visayas,” Octa Research fellow Guido David said in a televised public briefing on Wednesday, June 9.
WV, based on the June 9 bulletin issued by the Department of Health (DOH-6), has 9,517 active cases of COVID-19.
Of the figure, 2,269 are from Iloilo City, 1,930 from Negros Occidental, 1,845 from Iloilo province, 1,578 from Bacolod City, 743 from Capiz, 558 from Aklan, 454 from Antique, and 140 from Guimaras.
The region’s total case count currently stands at 52,573, including 41,789 recoveries and 1,251 deaths.
Meanwhile, Davao City has 2,830 active COVID-19 cases.
David said the National Capital Region, with an average of 1,000 cases per day, is still one of the epicenters.IMT
