The number of eight focus crimes in Western Visayas went down by 8.66 percent in 2022 compared to 2021, according to the Police Regional Office (PRO-6).

The Philippine National Police’s (PNP) regional office recorded 2,783 crime incidents last year, lower than 2021’s 3,047 incidents.

The focus crimes are murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, vehicle theft, and motorcycle theft.

Negros Occidental accounted for most or 700 of the crimes recorded in 2022. It was followed by Iloilo province with 624 crimes; Capiz, 389; Iloilo City, 382; Bacolod City, 257; Aklan, 209; Antique, 151; and Guimaras, 71.

PRO-6 attributed the decrease in crime incidents to “the regular conduct of enhanced managing police operations [by] all concerned units [and] the active support of local government units, barangay officials, force multipliers and PNP advocacy support groups.”

Police Brigadier General Leo M. Francisco, PRO-6 regional director, commended all unit commanders “for their efficient leadership and commitment [to reduce] crime incidents in their respective areas of responsibility.”
