The number of vehicular accidents in the province of Iloilo went by almost 10 percent this year.
From January to November 15, the Provincial Investigation and Detective Management Unit of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) recorded 1,675 vehicular accidents.
The figure was lower by 9.20 percent compared to 1,845 accidents that occurred in the province in the same period a year ago.
This year’s accidents resulted in damage to property (764 cases), homicide (112 cases), and physical injury (800 cases).
Police Colonel Gilbert Gorero, IPPO director, attributed the decline to a massive campaign against reckless driving and series of border control checkpoints during the first six months of 2021.
He also cited the random checkpoint as a factor in preventing road mishaps.
Meanwhile, motorcycles topped the list of vehicles involved in accidents in the province.
A total of 861 were involved in road accidents this year, higher by 9.54 percent compared to last year’s 786 cases.
Gorero said the IPPO intensifies the random checkpoint and presence of mobile patrols in highways to further drive the number of vehicular accidents lower.IMT
