The University of San Agustin (USA) College of Law won third place in the 2019 National Moot Court Competition on International Humanitarian Law held at Manila Adventist College on September 25-27.
USA bested other prominent law schools in country including the San Beda University College of Law and the defending champion, Ateneo de Manila University School of Law.
Apart from securing the 3rd spot, the leading law school in Western Visayas also won first runner-up for Best Memorial for Defense.
This year’s team, dubbed as “Team Bulahan”, is composed of third year law students Hannah Apruebo and Jaybe Blancaflor who both appeared as counsels; and freshmen Luis Miguel Tirador and Jeff Mary Megan Cortez as alternate speaker and researcher, respectively.
The team was coached by lawyer Anfred Panes, faculty of the USA College of Law.
Meanwhile, the University of the Philippines (UP) College of Law was declared champion while the University of Batangas (UB) College of Law placed second.
The competition, sponsored by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), serves as an avenue for honing talents in moot court competition while at the same raises awareness on humanitarian issues. /Mary Hope Torrechante
