Tyhoon Ursula made its fourth landfall in Iloilo on Christmas Day, Dec. 25.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the typhoon landed over Gigantes Islands in Carles at 2:30 a.m.
Ursula’s eyewall, according to the state weather bureau, is “bringing very destructive winds and intense rainfall” to the northeastern part of Iloilo, Capiz, and the southern part of Masbate.
The eyewall is defined by the World Meteorological Organization as “an organized band or ring of cumulonimbus clouds that surround the eye, or light-wind center of a tropical cyclone.”
PAGASA hoisted Signal No.3 over northern part of Iloilo (Calinog, Bingawan, Passi City, San Enrique, San Rafael, Barotac Viejo, Ajuy, Lemery, Sara, Concepcion, San Dionisio, Batad, Estancia, Balasan, Carles), Capiz, Aklan, and the northern part of Antique (Libertad, Pandan, Sebaste, Culasi, Tibiao, Barbaza, Laua-an)
Signal No. 2 was raised over the rests of Iloilo and Antique, Guimaras, and the northern part of Negros Occidental (Valladolid, Pulupandan, Bago City, Murcia, San Carlos City, Salvador Benedicto, Bacolod City, Talisay, Silay City, Enrique B Magalona, Victorias City, Manapla, Cadiz City, Sagay City, Escalante City, Toboso, Calatrava).
The rest of Negros Occidental was placed under Signal No. 1.
Ursula, based on PAGASA’s 5 a.m. weather bulletin, was last spotted at 40 kilometers east northeast of Roxas City, Capiz and moving west northwest at 25 km/h.
The typhoon packs maximum winds of 140 kilometers per hour (km/h) from the previous 130 km/h. Its gustiness slightly decreased to 195 km/h from the previous 200 km/h.IMT
