Families displaced by Typhoon Ursula that hit Panay Island on Christmas Day received cash assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD-6).
The agency has so far released P2.6 million for displaced families in the provinces of Iloilo and Capiz.
Of the amount, P1.2 million went to Balasan and Carles in Iloilo and P1.4 million to Pontevedra in Capiz. The three are among the hardest-hit towns in Panay.
“That’s under our aid to those in crisis situation,” said May Rago-Castillo, DSWD-6 information officer.
Each family received P5,000.
The DSWD-6 also distributed food packs, dignity kits, used clothing, and mats to all Ursula-affected families.
The food pack contains six kilos of rice, four cans of corned beef, four cans of sardines, and six sachets of coffee.
Families of those who died following the onslaught of Ursula received P20,000 each.
The DSWD-6, as of 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 27, recorded 97, 341 families affected by the typhoon in Panay.
In Aklan, 44,657 families were affected; Antique, 4,163; Capiz, 7,947; and Iloilo, 40, 574.IMT
