Even Antique Governor Rhodora Cadiao questioned the decision of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of the Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) to place the province and city of Iloilo under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) until the end of the month.

The escalation of Iloilo’s quarantine status from MECQ to the most restrictive community quarantine level is “precautionary and anticipatory” for the possible entry of the more infectious and deadly variants of COVID-19, according to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.

On Friday, July 16, the Department of Health (DOH) reported that two of the 16 new cases of Delta variant in the country were detected in Antique.

“Matagal na ‘yan. Mayo pa ‘yan. Panis na balita ‘yan. Nakarecover ang may sakit niyan,” Cadiao said in an interview over radio station RMN-Iloilo.

“That’s unfair for Iloilo nga gamiton mo tana ang months ago nga variant di sa Antique para i-ECQ ang Iloilo. That’s very funny,” the governor added.

Cadiao said the elderly couple who tested positive for the Delta variant were brought to a hospital in Aklan province and not in Iloilo as claimed by Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary Epimaco Densing III.

The husband has already recovered while his wife died on May 31.

“I think somebody nagpapalusot. Panglalaruan lang tayo dito sa Region IV. Halato ko na binu-bully tayo dito. Abi ko himuon kita nga GCQ kag MECQ. Ah maan ano tana dya man,” Cadiao lamented.IMT
