Young dribblers from University of Antique (UA) Laboratory High School made their Christmas “Merry” after winning the title in the National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) Antique Leg.
The UA cagers suffered from a sluggish opening before making a comeback in the second half and eliminated Sta. Justa NHS in a scintillating gold medal clash, 55-48.
Both teams were hungry for the crown as they employed a man-to-man defense for a low scoring first half. After a hard-fought game, UA gunner John Galos stepped up his play and scored successive baskets.
With two minutes left in the final frame, SJNHS led the game, following a smooth drive to the rim. But with Galos’ command and leadership the tema trimmed down the deficit and eventually, sealed the victory for a chance to represent the province in the Western Visayas Regional Finals in Aklan.
Meanwhile, Tañon College defeated Bagonbon National High School after an 89-52 Game 2 victory and took the national qualifier spot.
In Game 1, Tañon College was led by MVP John Paul Caballero who rotated the ball wisely for successive baskets opportunities. The momentum went on as the winning team did not waste away the time and claimed the crown in this year’s edition.IMT
