Two people were killed in separate shooting incidents in Iloilo City on Sunday, Jan. 19, a day before the Dinagyang week.
A call center agent was gunned down by two unidentified men at around 12:05 p.m. in Barangay Cuartero, Jaro district.
Initial investigation showed that the victim, identified as Alain Muller, 42, was urinating along the road when he was shot several times by the assailants onboard a gray Mitsubishi Adventure.
Muller, a drug surrenderer, was brought to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival, said Police Captain Eduardo Siacon Jr, Jaro Police Station chief.
The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds in different parts of his body.
Recovered from the crime scene were nine empty shells of a 9mm pistol and two empty shells of a .45 caliber pistol.
At around 12:30 p.m., another man was shot dead in Barangay Nabitasan, La Paz district.
The victim was identified as Delfin Britanico, 37.
According to police, Britanico was driving his motorcyle when motorcycle-riding men fired shots at him.
He sustained several gunshot wounds in his head, stomach, and neck.
The La Paz Police Station recovered five empty shells of a .45 caliber pistol and nine empty shells of a 9mm pistol, and eight bullet slugs.
Separate investigations into the incidents are ongoing.
The city is celebrating this month its 52nd Dinagyang Festival. Major activities of the festival, which kicked off on Jan. 10, are set in the final week (Jan. 20-26).
