Iloilo Fifth District Rep. Raul “Boboy” Tupas will sit as a member of the House of Representatives’ 12-man contingent to the powerful Commission on Appointments (CA).

The third-termer lawmaker entered into a term-sharing deal with Iloilo Fourth District Rep. Ferjenel Biron and two other House members for the final two seats in CA.

Under the agreement, Tupas and Batangas Rep. Marvey Mariño would serve as CA members for the last 18 months of the 36-month term.

They would replace Biron and Caloocan Rep. Oscar Malapitan who are set to assume the position for the first 18 months.

The CA has the power to approve or disapprove appointments made by the President, the confirmation of which is required under the Constitution.

The constitutional body is consist of the President of the Senate, as ex officio Chairman; 12 senators, and 12 members of the House of Representatives, elected by each House on the basis of proportional representation from the political parties and parties of organizations registered under the party-list system represented therein.

Meanwhile, Tupas also retained his chairmanship of the House committee on national defense and security.IMT
