Mayor Jerry P. Treñas has warned of declaring Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel Bonoan persona non grata or unwelcome in Iloilo City if the latter fails to give updates on the repair of the defective Ungka Flyover.

During a meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 10, Treñas asked DPWH-6 regional director Nerie Bueno if Bonoan could inform them about the status of the four-lane flyover.

In response, Bueno said: “I’ll try to tell him kasi desisyon po niya ‘yon. I’ll try to tell him kung gusto niya kasi hindi pa po fix ‘yong time ng pagpunta niya dito.”

Bonoan is scheduled to visit the city on Friday, Jan. 13.

“Just tell him that the mayor of Iloilo (City) is asking if he can give us an update. If he does not want to give us updates then we can declare him persona non grata,” Treñas told Bueno.

In an interview after the meeting, the mayor said he did not like the way Bueno answered him.

“I don’t like the way the question was answered. Namangkot man lang ko kon pwede ka kahatag update. Indi manami panabat ni regional director. Bonoan is a good friend,” said Treñas.

The mayor is expecting that Bonoan will give updates during his visit.

The P680-million flyover was closed to traffic in September last year after three of its foundations were found to be sinking.IMT
