Mayor Jerry P. Treñas wants a lower alert level, citing the downward trend of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in Iloilo City.
In a statement, Treñas said the city government will appeal to the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) to downgrade the city’s status from Alert Level 3.
“I have given instructions to Dr. Roland Fortuna [of the City Health Office and the City Legal Office to prepare the formal appeal on the alert level given to Iloilo City.”
The mayor noted that the city’s COVID-19 “cases have been going down for the past two weeks already.”
Based on data from the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU), the number of infections went down from 7,263 (daily average of 234) last January to 1,277 (daily average of 98) from February 1 to 13.
According to Treñas, most of the patients confined in the city hospitals are from outside the [metropolis].”
On Monday morning, Feb. 14, acting presidential spokesperson Karlo Nograles announced that Iloilo City and Iloilo province will remain under Alert Level 3 until Feb. 28.
Department of Health (DOH-6) said the city is currently at moderate risk classification with low two-week growth rate and high average daily attack rate (ADAR).
Its healthcare utilization rate (HCUR) for COVID-19 beds is at 61.24 percent. Of the 712 beds and mechanical ventilators in the city, 436 have been occupied.
As of Feb. 13, the city logged 1, 084 active cases of COVID-19.IMT
