Mayor Jerry Treñas wants either the Dinagyang Festival or the century-old Molo Church to be included in the next promotional video of the country’s tourism department.
The city government, according to the mayor, will be writing a letter to the Department of Tourism (DOT) asking for the inclusion of the festival or the church.
“Now that the contract of DOT for the ‘love the Philippines’ video and promotion was already terminated, perhaps in the next video/promotion the Iloilo Dinagyang or the Molo church can now be included,” Treñas said in a statement.
The Dinagyang Festival was awarded by the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP) as the country’s best tourism event for several times.
“As a festival it has earned its right to be included,” the mayor stressed.
Molo church, on the other hand, was declared a national landmark by the National Historical Institute. It is also known as the Saint Anne Parish Church.
On Monday, July 3, DOT announced that it had terminated its contract with DDB Philippines, the advertising firm that used footage from other countries in the “Love the Philippines” audiovisual presentation (AVP).
The country’s “enahanced” tourism campaign slogan was unveiled by DOT on June 27, replacing the “It’s More Fun in the Philippines” campaign that has been in use since 2012.IMT
