Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas has tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
“I was informed that my RT-PCR (reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction) test [result] is positive,” he said in a statement on Thursday, March 30.
“Despite this, I will still be working remotely to ensure services are still brought to our residents,” the 66-year-old mayor added.
Treñas has been confined in a hospital. He began experiencing soar throat, body aches and chills on Wednesday, March 29.
“There are signs that I have pneumonia. Antibiotics have been given to me since [Wednesday] night. Rest lang anay,” he said.
The city, based on the March 30 bulletin released by the Department of Health (DOH-6), has 71 active cases of COVID-19.
Since the pandemic broke out in 2020, the city has logged 36,035 infections, of which 35,176 recovered and 763 died.IMT
