Mayor Jerry Treñas stood pat on his decision not to disclose the names of two Iloilo City Hall job hires who tested positive for illegal drug use.
In a statement, Treñas said the two should be given a chance to recover from their addictions by making them undergo rehabilitation.
“Indi kita gusto nga ibuyagyag mo na kay ti maguba man ang tawo. Basi marehab man na sila, ti i-announce naton na sila maluoy man kita. They also have a future ahead of them,” the mayor said.
According to Treñas, the two were not rehired and their names will be submitted to the Philippine National Police (PNP).
All City Hall job hire and casual employees are required to submit themselves to quarterly drug tests.
Earlier, Councilor Plaridel Nava challenged Treñas to divulge the names of the two job hires.
“Kon seryuso kita, these people should have been named. Dapat may transparency,” he said.
In response, Treñas said: “Basi i-subject na sila sa extrajudicial killing (EJK). Ti sin-o responsibilidad ina? Si Councilor Nava pwede siya magkadto sa opisina ni [City Administrator] Melchor Tan kag hulamon ang listahan.”IMT
