Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas is pushing for direct flights from the Iloilo International Airport to South Korea and vice versa.

Like the Kalibo International Airport in Aklan, the airport in Cabatuan town, Iloilo province is also capable of handling direct flights to and from South Korea, according to Treñas.

The overseas route will boost Iloilo’s tourism industry, the mayor said, adding that he wants to build relations with more Korean provinces and cities.

In October this year, the city will sign a “brotherhood agreement” with Dobong-Gu, Seoul, South Korea.

“Iloilo City is honored to be the exclusive partner chosen by Dobong-Gu, marking a significant step in building a strong partnership between our countries,” Treñas said in a statement.

“As an exciting highlight, we invite everyone to join us for a free KPOP concert on August 19, showcasing the vibrant Korean culture right here in Iloilo City,” he added.

Last Wednesday, July 26, representatives of Dobong-Gu Mayor Oh Eon-seok paid a courtesy visit to Treñas.IMT
