Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas has expressed frustration over the delay in the repair of the defective P680-million defective Ungka Flyover.
The four-lane flyover, which straddles the city and the town of Pavia, was temporarily closed in September last year after three of its foundations were found to be sinking.
“To find ways and means to manage and lessen the traffic congestion” in the Ungka area, Treñas arranged an “urgent meeting” next week.
The meeting will be attended by officials of the Land Transportation Office (LTO), Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), and the city government’s Public Safety and Transport Management office as well as representatives of transport groups.
“We can no longer wait for the solutions coming from DPWH,” said Treñas.
“I have invited [Pavia] Mayor Luigi Gorriceta to our meeting for the flyover problem so that together we will explore options to ease traffic and terrible inconvenience to the riding public. He has confirmed his attendance,” he further said.
The Ungka Flyover was built by International Builders Corp. (IBC), an Iloilo-based contractor.IMT
