Selling and public consumption of liquor and other alcoholic beverages in Iloilo City is allowed only from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m.
Mayor Jerry Treñas imposed the limitations through Executive Order No. 049-2022, dated August 23. The EO “shall be effective immediately.”
“The sale and consumption in public of any form of alcholic beverages, or any alcoholic drink containing a specific percentage of alcohol by volume or weight which may be in the form of whisky, brandy, gin, rum, cordial, liquor, cocktail, wine, champaigne, shall be allowed from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. only,” the EO stated.
Treñas issued the order after a shooting incident at Smallville Complex in Barangay San Rafael, Mandurriao district before dawn on Saturday, Aug. 21.
The mayor said there has been an increase in the number of “bars, night clubs, disco bars, restaurants, resto bars and other similar establishments engaged in the unregulated dispensation of liquor and other intoxicating drinks even during the wee hours of the morning and sometimes at daytime.”
This, according to Treñas, resulted in “improper conduct and harmful behavior of consumers and proliferation of criminal activities as reported by the media and the Iloilo City Police Office.”
“Imbibing of liquor or intoxicating drinks even during wee hours of the morning permeates loitering in the streets at night of persons under the influence of liquor,” he said.
The recent shooting incident claimed the life of 21-year-old Axel Sean Del Castillo of Barangay Guzman, Mandurriao.
He was allegedly shot to death by the suspect identified as John Robel Vargas of Pavia town, Iloilo province.IMT
