Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas has been hospitalized due to overfatigue “caused by the recent events.”
“I was advised by my doctor to be hospitalized for full checkup and complete rest,” Treñas said in a statement on Wednesday night, June 9.
“I am asking for your fervent prayers for my fast recovery and also everyone’s safety so we can continue with our fight against this unseen enemy.”
The mayor appointed his nephew, City Councilor Jay Treñas, as officer-in-charge (OIC) for the period of his absence.
A few days ago, Treñas underwent a reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test after experiencing symptoms of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
