Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas sees no problem with the hiring of First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos as a part-time professor at the West Visayas State University (WVSU) College of Law.
Marcos, who earned her law degree at the Ateneo de Manila University, is “qualified” to be part of the faculty of the College of Law, according to Treñas.
“Para sa akon, I do not see any problem with her teaching in one of the law schools here. Kay ti para sa akon qualified man sya,” the mayor said in a press conference on Monday, August 8.
“I know the First Lady personally. I was with her when she took up college at the Ateneo-Loyola and she took up law at the Ateneo Law School,” said Treñas.
“She knew I was supporting [former vice president] Leni [Robredo during the 2022 presidential election.] She called me when she was here and she already mentioned about teaching here at that time,” he added.
Iloilo, according to Treñas, will surely benefit from the decision of the First Lady to teach at WVSU, the first and so far the only state university in Western Visayas that offers legal education.
“May makit-an sya basi nga kinanglan sang university or basi kinanglan man sang syudad, mahutikan ya pa iya bana,” he said.
“After all, tapos na ang pulitika. We have to contend that for the next six years, President [Bongbong] Marcos will be in power and we will have to coordinate with him and his administration on whatever needs that we have for the country,” the mayor added.IMT
