Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas is planning to make the Iloilo Convention Center (ICC) in Mandurriao district as a mass quarantine area for persons suspected of having the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
If the numbers of patients under investigation (PUIs) and persons under monitoring (PUMs) in the city continue to increase, Treñas said he would push through with the plan.
According to the mayor, the conversion of ICC into a temporary facility for PUIs and PUMs would help avoid overcrowding in hospitals.
The city government is presently using the Diamond Jubilee Hall on Mabini Street, City Proper as an isolation center for suspected COVID-19 patients with mild symptoms.
The facility, which can accomodate up to 24 persons, currently has seven PUIs and one PUMs.
As of April 5, 2020, the City Health Office recorded four confirmed cases of the disease, including one death and one recovery.
The numbers of PUIs and actively monitored PUMs in the city are at 48 and 300, respectively.IMT
