Mayor Jerry Treñas expressed his dismay with the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) after a series of brazen killings in the metropolis.
The latest incident involved Glen Peremne, health and sanitation team leader of the Iloilo Fish Port Complex in Barangay Tanza, City Proper.
Peremne was gunned down by unidentified suspects on board a motorcycle on April 23.
“Indi manami nga ginahimo tana tanan nga maubra ta nga mabuligan ang PNP para sa ila nga kinanglanon and may gakatabo pa nga parehas sini,” Treñas said in an interview over radio station RMN-Iloilo.
Nevertheless, the mayor assured the city government’s continued support for the ICPO to solve the murder of Peremne and to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
“I will do everything under my control to support the PNP so that this case will be solved the earliest possible time,” said Treñas.
“We cannot let crimes like this mar our reputation as a safe and livable city,” he added.
According to ICPO director Colonel Uldarico Garbanzos, they had already forwarded to the Criminal Investigation Group (CIDG) all information and pieces of evidence gathered regarding the killing of Peremne.
“Ara na subong ang tanan nga information sa CIDG and very soon a case will be filed,” he said.
Meanwhile, Treñas called on Ilonggos to be vigilant in these trying times.
“We have to cooperate and unite as a people against all forms of violence and lawlessness,” the mayor said.
On Thursday, April 29, Peremne’s elder brother, Jail Senior Superintendent Gilbert Peremne, died of cardiac arrest.
The 50-year-old assistant regional director for administration and spokesperson of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology 6 (BJMP-6) was declared dead on arrival at the Metro Iloilo Hospital and Medical Center.IMT
