Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas has urged Ilonggos to support Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who is set to become the president of the country after winning the May 9 elections.
“I know we have mixed emotions about the results because Vice President Leni Robredo did not win as the president, and for most, it’s still so hard to process since we have dedicated so much time and efforts campaigning for her,” the reelected mayor said.
Treñas is one the local chief executives who publicly declared support for the presidential bid of Robredo.
The partial and unofficial results from the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) transparency server showed that Marcos, the son of the former dictator, earned more than 31 million votes.
Robredo is in second place with more than 14 million votes.
“Difficult as it may be, we have to accept that the majority voted for a different candidate, and as good citizens of the country, we have to show him our support and ensure that he succeeds in leading the Philippines,” said Treñas.
“Congratulations to the presumptive president Bongbong Marcos, Jr. May you always be surrounded by divine guidance as you lead the entire Filipino community,” he added.IMT
