Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas has called out the Department of Health (DOH) in Western Visayas for becoming a “silent” and “inactive” partner in the fight against COVID-19.
“In our fight against COVID 19, we have initially looked at DOH to give us the needed direction. Now, it is very sad for me to state that DOH in Region 6 has completely and entirely lived in a world of their own,” said Treñas.
“While the local chief executives continue to discuss how to protect our jurisdictions against the surge of COVID-19 cases, the DOH has become the silent and inactive partner against the virus. We have to continue fighting this pandemic inspite of and despite of them,” he continued.
Last week, the mayor also hit the region’s health department over the slow distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, saying that it has “no sense of urgency.”
The DOH-6 has yet to comment on Treñas’ remarks.IMT
