Re-elected Mayor Jerry P. Treñas and Representative Julienne “Jamjam” Baronda were top two spenders in the May 9 elections in Iloilo City.

Based on their Statement of Contribution and Expenditures (SOCE) submitted to the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), Treñas spent a total P325, 999 while Baronda spent P318, 525.17.

They were followed by Jose Espinosa III, Baronda’s closest rival, with a total expenses of P272, 970; re-elected city councilor Candice Tupas, P256, 870 and elected city councilors Johnny Young (P242, 000), Plaridel Nava (P225, 315.58) and Miguel Treñas (P184, 152).

Meanwhile, the lowest spenders were congressional bet Rudy Bantolo with a total expenses of P800 only and two candidates for city councilor, Edmundo Pama and Carmelo Carreon, with expenses of P5,000 and P5,459, respectively.

Five candidates failed to submit their SOCE. They were Juni Espinosa (congressman), Vicente Ang, Vic Anoche, Mor Espinosa and Efren Gimeo (city councilors).

The deadline for the filing of SOCE was on Wednesday, June 8.

The five will be held administratively liable and they will also be asked to pay penalties.

According to COMELEC-Iloilo assistant election officer Jonathan Sayno, the 32 city bets who filed their SOCE did not exceed the required expenses.IMT
