The increasing number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Iloilo City is due to the conduct of mass testing, according to Mayor Jerry Treñas.
“Nagadamo ina kay nagatest kita. The more kita may ginatest, the more man ang magwa positive” Treñas said in a press conference on Wednesday, May 6.
The city government started mass testing for COVID-19 on April 13 using test kits it purchased from South Korea worth P5.5 million.
Mass testing, according to the Treñas, would give a real picture of the extent of infection in the city.
“Mas maayo nalang ni nga bal-an ta. Ang mga nagpositive na isolate na dayon, na-avoid ta nga makacontact sila sa madamo pa gid nga tawo,” he explained.
The city’s recent cases of COVID-19 involved two personnel of the city government’s emergency response team. They underwent mass testing.
“Ang isa didto sa Jaro kag ang isa sa Arevalo,” Treñas.
Arevalo district currently has seven confirmed cases of COVID-19. It has been placed under lockdown to stop the further spread of the disease.
The number of confirmed cases in the whole city is at 15. The other infected patients are from Jaro (3), Mandurriao (3), ang La Paz (2).IMT
