Mayor Jerry Treñas urged Ilonggos to continue supporting the Iloilo City Government this 2020.
“With everyone’s cooperation, we can do so much more and we will be able to achieve our dreams for our city. Together, let us bring Iloilo to the next level,” the mayor said.
Treñas considered 2019 as one of the most challenging years of his life.
“I could have not conquered it without the trust and support of family and friends, and the love of my fellow Ilonggos,” he said.
Treñas returned as mayor the city after he won against his brother-in-law, Jose Espinosa III, in the May 2019 elections.
The mayoral race strained the relationship of the two former allies.
Treñas boasted his administration’s accomplishments in the past six years.
“We have already accomplished our short-term plans and promises as we reactivated the Beautification Program, repaired our street lights, and cleaned our city,” he said.
“We planted at least 10,000 trees all over the city to help fight climate change. We also formed the Iloilo Festivals Foundation Inc. (IFFI) to help level up the Dinagyang Festival celebration,” the mayor added.
For the city government’s long-term projects, Treñas said they are now “in the final stages in upgrading our markets, plazas through the help of PPP (Public-Private Partnership) Center and TEIZA (Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority).”
According to the mayor, the city’s MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences/conventions, exhibitions/events) campaign “will be executed this year to attract more tourists, and will generate more job opportunities, and many more projects for [the city].”
