Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas has appealed to the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on Emerging Infectious Diseases to “already allow” the COVID-19 vaccination of the general population.
“On behalf of the Ilonggos, I most respectfully make this humble appeal,” Treñas said on Tuesday, May 25.
The mayor noted that most of the new cases in city involved individuals aged 20 to 32 years old and “they, in turn, infect other members of their families who only stay at home.”
“These are the persons who go out to make a living and who are forced to get out, use the PUJ to get to work, and work in offices or other environments to look for a living,” said Treñas.
The city, which is currently under modified enhance community quarantine (MECQ), has 1,073 active cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
In a report by GMA News, vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez, Jr. said they are eyeing to start the COVID-19 vaccination of the general population by August this year.
“Sa August, we are targeting na ‘pag dumagsa na ang ating mga vaccine, puwede na tayong magkaroon ng general public vaccination.”
According to Galvez, the existing supplies of COVID-19 vaccines in the country can only be used by A1 (healthcare workers), A2 (seniors), A3 (people with comorbidities), and A4 (essential workers).IMT
