All candidates for the May 2022 elections, particularly presidential aspirants, are welcome to visit Iloilo City, according to Mayor Jerry Treñas.
“I will receive all candidates at my office if they so wish without exception in the same way that all their proposed activities will be allowed,” Treñas said in statement.
The mayor stressed that Ilonggos have the freedom to choose the candidates that they want to elect.
“The essence of a democratic system is the ability to make a choice and in the ultimate analysis, we will deserve the leaders we elect,” he said.
Last month, Treñas publicly declared support for the presidential bid of Vice President Leni Robredo.
“I am Mayor Jerry Treñas, a father, a leader, an Ilonggo, and a Filipino. I stand with Leni Robredo in making the sun rise again,” he said.
“I have clearly stated that only VP Leni helped us in our COVID response – RT-PCR machine, test kits, PPEs, other assistance. I have known her since she was a congressman and the late Sec. Jessie was a good friend,” the mayor further said.IMT
