Mayor Jerry P. Treñas vowed to regularize “green guards” if they are able to apprehend vandals in Iloilo City.
“Ang mga green guards nga makadakop pangitaan ko paagi nga masulod sa permanent position. So it is really up to them,” he said yesterday, Nov. 11.
The mayor was dismayed upon learning that another palm tree along Diversion Road in Mandurriao district was uprooted.
This despite the repeated warnings by authorities.
The city goverment recently hired 30 “green guards” primarily to public plazas and the Iloilo Esplanade from vandals.
These “green guards”, who underwent a five-day “paralegal seminar workshop on anti-littering” conducted by City Environment and Natural Resources Office, are authorized to apprehend vandals.
Treñas once again appealed to the public to stop stop vandalism.
“It takes a lot of effort and sacrifice sang mga nagapatahum sa aton sa syduad.Maski mainit ara sila, kon naga-ulan ara man sila. Indi man ni para kay sin o lang kundi para ni sa tanan,” he said.
“Tinguhaan ta man tani…kon indi man lang kita bulig patahom, pabay-an na lang naton ang mga tanom ta, wala man na sila sala sa inyo,” the mayor added.
Treñas said they now looking for fund to purchase more palm trees.
“We will continue to be vigilant, our green guards are there to make sure nga ma prevent ang mga pangvandal,” he said.IMT
