Several transport groups are seeking to halt the operations of all point-to-point (P2P) buses from and to Iloilo Business Park (IBP) in Mandurriao District, Iloilo City.
The Association of Taxi Operators in Panay (ATOP), New Iloilo Airport Terminal Association, Northern Iloilo Central Terminal, and Western Visayas Transport Coalition submitted petitions against the P2P buses.
The transport groups also want to stop the operations of a transport hub inside Megaworld’s 72-hectare township.
ATOP president Perfecto Yap claimed that Megaworld and companies that owned the P2P buses violated the city’s Comprehensive Perimeter Boundary Ordinance.
The ordinance limits the “entry of provincial jeepneys and buses among others, to the city.
According to YAP, only UV Express service vehicles, under the ordinance, are allowed to operate in city.
The petitions were tackled during a committee hearing on July 31,
Councilor Romel Duron, head of the committee on transportation, led the hearing. He said he would release his committe report within 30 days.
The buses started ferrying passengers from IBP to airports in Iloilo (P80), Kalibo (P720), and Caticlan (P920) and vice versa on July 12.
Last March, the City Council approved an ordinance allowing Megaworld to build a transport hub.
“The transport hub shall be used exclusively and limitedly only to UV Express, Tourist and Chartered Vans and Bus and Shuttle Buses with a valid and existing franchise issued by LTFRB,” the ordinance
states.IMT
