Tourist arrivals in Western Visayas have breached the two million mark from January to June this year, according to the Department of Tourism (DOT-6).

Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan accounted for the bulk of tourists who visited the region in the first six months of the year, DOT-6 Regional Director Crisanta Marlene Rodriguez said in an interview over radio station Radyo Pilipinas-Iloilo.

The world-famous resort island, known for its pristine white sand and crystal blue waters, is considered as the crown jewel of the couuntry’s tourism industry.

DOT-6 aims to attract at least 4.5 million local and foreign visitors this year, higher by almost half compared to its 2022 target of 2.3 million.

Rodriguez said she is positive that they will reach their 2023 target, given the aggressive marketing campaigns of local governments and the private stakeholders.IMT
