Mayor Jerry Treñas ordered the suspension of classes for Thursday, Nov. 7, from pre-school to senior high school in Iloilo City.

The suspension, which was recommended by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), covers both public and private schools.

“As of 8 p.m. tonight (Nov. 6), PAGASA Iloilo Radar already recorded 23mm total amount of rainfall considered as orange rainfall advisory or intense,” Treñas said in a statement.

According to the mayor, the suspension order is a pre-emptive disaster mitigating measure to “protect students from possible effects of heavy rainfall.”

Tropical Storm Quiel (Nakri) entered the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

In its bulletin issued 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6, PAGASA said Quiel is 435 kilometers west northwest of Coron, Palawan, hardly moving.

The weather disturbance is packing maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 90 kph.IMT
