Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. wants a temporary stoppage of flights between Iloilo and countries with confirmed cases of the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV).
Defensor requested for “voluntary cessation” of Cebu Pacific’s “international flights to and from affected countries immediately.”
“Your favorable and immediate action on this request will be highly appreciated,” Defensor said in his letter sent to Leah Vallido, operations manager of Cebu Pacific.
The letter was dated Jan. 30, 2020.
“I just saw this (letter). But for sure, announcements will be made once available,” Cebu Pacific’s Michelle Lim told IMT NEWS.
Meanwhile, flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) has already canceled its chartered flights between Kalibo and several cities in China.
But the airline said it would keep its regularly scheduled flights to and from the mainland with enhanced protective measures in place.
According to PAL, those with tickets for travel between Jan. 24 to Feb. 29, 2020, may rebook their flights to another date until June 2020.
“Refund and rerouting were also offered as options with service fees waived,” it said.IMT
