Young volleybelles from Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts-NOPSSCEA captured the women’s volleyball crown of the Cebu-Bacolod Goodwill Games at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu over the weekend.
The Thunderbolts were led by veterans Alyssa Bertolano, Shane Carmona and Joan Marie Monares as they walloped University of San Jose-Recoletos’ (USJR) collegiate team in the finals, 25-13, 25-16, 25-13.
According to BTTHS assistant coach Biboy Calamba said he’s happy with the result as it is a good sign for the team who is preparing for the 2020 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet in Aklan.
“The girls are getting the rhythm but there are still more adjustments to be made. We have three weeks to go before WVRAA Meet so we can still improve their play,” he added.
To recall, the Bacolod-based squad reached the finals with an unblemished record after four games. They eliminated Ateneo de Cebu-B, University of San Carlos, Ateneo de Cebu-A and USJR.
Other team members were Rhean Hebraica Almendralejo, Kiesha Dazzie Bedonia, Gwen Bañas, Katherine Shaine Cortez, Julianne Monares, Nicolei Galvan, Aurea Alvero, Alijah Ysulan, Myrtle Escanlar and Julianah Severino. IMT
