The municipal government building of Sta. Barbara in Iloilo province has been put on lockdown after six employees tested positive for COVID-19.

Mayor Rema Somo said the lockdown of the building took effect on Monday afternoon, March 29, until Monday next week, April 5.

All other government buildings near the town hall, except the police station and the public market, are also covered by the lockdown order, according to Somo.

The infected employees are assigned at the Municipal Budget Office (3) Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (2), and Accounting Office (1).

Somo said decontamination and contact tracing efforts are ongoing to halt the further spread of the coronavirus.

At present, Sta. Barbara has 39 active cases of COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the local government of Dumangas placed a portion of Sitio Mainunungon in Barangay Sulangan under lockdown after a resident contracted COVID-19.
