Iloilo City Congresswoman Julienne “Jam-jam” Baronda is again pushing for the passage of House Bill 3074 that seeks to divide Iloilo City into two districts.
Under the bill, the First Legislative District will be composed of Jaro, La Paz, and Mandurriao while the Second Legislative District will be comprised of City Proper, Molo, Arevalo, and Lapuz.
The proposed measure, which was first filed in 2019, also mandates the reapportionment of the composition of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP). From 12, the number of SP members will be increased to 16 – eight will come from each of the two new legislative districts.
“An additional representative for the Ilonggos would mean an enhanced representation of their interest thereby ensuring the immediate delivery of public services to them,” Baronda said in the bill’s explanatory note.
“This way, the district representative will be more efficient in attending to the concerns of his/her now fewer constituents,” the neophyte lawmaker added.
Fifth District Cong. Raul Tupas, Iloilo 2nd District Cong. Michael Gorriceta, and Abang Lingkod party-list Cong. Joseph Stephen Paduano are the co-authors of the bill.IMT
