The suspension of the implementation of the mandatory use of face shields in Iloilo City was formally approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP).
The city’s legislative body on Thursday, Nov. 2, passed an ordinance temporarily lifting the requirement on face shields.
The approval was made more than three weeks after Mayor Jerry P. Treñas announced the suspension and asked the SP to amend the existing ordinance containing the policy on face shield use.
According to City Councilor Ely Estante, author of Regulatory Ordinance 2020-095 or the Face Mask/Face Shield Ordinance, the newly passed measure will take effect upon the approval of Treñas.
“Ginsuspend naton temporarily kay indi pa naton mabal-an kon ano ang sitwasyon sang COVID kay may ara naman threat, ining Omicron nga variant. Once magdepende naman ta sa national IATF nga ibalik ang face shield then i-lift lang ang suspension,” he said.
Estante stressed that the suspension was in compliance with the policy of the National Inter-Agency Task Force that “the mandatory use of face shields shall be imposed only in hospitals, clinics, quarantine facilities, medical laboratories, and those serving as front liners in all alert levels.”IMT/Photo by Ian Paul Cordero
