The Sangguniang Bayan (SB) of Pavia, Iloilo has approved a resolution urging the Senate to conduct an inquiry into the “sinking” Ungka Flyover.
SB Member Pyt Trimañez, author of the resolution, said the proposed inquiry, in aid of legislation, will identify those responsible for the defective P680-million project.
The Ungka Flyover, which straddles Iloilo City and Pavia, was fully opened to traffic on September 5 last year but was closed 13 days later.
Third-party consulting firm Abinales Associates Engineers + Consultants (AAEC) reported on May 15 that all 16 piers or foundations of the flyover sank.
The repair of these defects is estimated to cost at least P250 million, according to engineer Adam Abinales, managing partner of the Pasig City-based consultancy firm.
The controversial project was awarded by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to Iloilo-based International Builders Corp. (IBC).IMT
