Residents of two towns in the province of Iloilo are receiving fresh vegetables as food aid from their local government units (LGUs).

Instead of instant noodles and canned goods the LGUs of Sara and New Lucena decided to distribute assorted vegetables with rice to their people.

The province is currently on lockdown due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Several measures have been imposed to combat the spread of the deadly disease.

Sara Mayor Jon Aying said they bought the vegetables from farmers in their town to help them earn their income amid the province-wide enhanced community quarantine.

The LGU of New Lucena also purchased vegetables from their farmers and distribute them to their residents.

The province of Iloilo currently has 6 confirmed cases of COVID-19. The figue includes two deaths from Lambunao and Guimbal.IMT
