Another repatriated seafarer in Western Visayas tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The latest COVID-19 patient in the region is a 59-year-old male from the town of Makato in the province of Aklan.

He is asymptomatic and is currently staying at a quarantine facility.

Dr. Renilyn Reyes, spokesperson of the Department of Health (DOH-6), said the patient underwent a reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test on May 22.

His specimen was sent to the Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) in Iloilo City on May 23 and the result of the test came out positive for COVID-19.

According to Dr. Victor Santamaria of the Aklan Provincial Health Office, the patient left Germany on March 18 this year and arrived in Cebu the following day.

Since then, he was stranded in Cebu until May 20.

Santamaria said the patient will be transferred to Dr. Rafael Tumbukon Memorial Hospital for close monitoring.

As of Tuesday, May 26, Western Visayas has 109 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 76 recoveries and 10 deaths.

Of the total cases, 30 percent or 33 are repatriated overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).IMT
